CAPE TOWN FREEZES ISSUING OF RATES CLEARANCES

The City of Cape Town municipality is implementing a new services integrated system in order to streamline, amongst others, the issuing of valuations and rates clearance certificates. Read their notice here. This is chilling news because without these certificates, transfer documents cannot be lodged in the deeds office.

Indications are that the hold-up will commence on 28 November and last two weeks, thereafter thawing into the new smoother system. Time will tell if the municipality will manage this in two weeks, but it is certain that it will cause substantial delays in transfers over the affected period.
