PRESCRIBED INCREASE OF DOMESTIC WORKERS’ SALARIES

In terms of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, the Minister has now laid down increased tariffs for the minimum salary of domestic workers. From 1 December 2011 onwards, domestic workers working more than 27 hours per week must receive a minimum salary of at least R8.34 per hour, or R375.19 per week, or R1 625.70 per month. A domestic worker who works for less than 27 hours per week must be paid a minimum rate of R9.85 per hour, or R265.94 per week, or R1 152.32 per month.

Different rates apply for domestic workers in smaller municipal areas.
