« BackTHE PAIA MANUAL DEBACLE AND RELIEF
During the last months of 2011, many of us were flooded with e-mails that warned of the looming deadline for all private companies to have their PAIA Manuals ready by 1 January 2012.
This was because the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA) requires all public and private bodies to prepare, lodge and publish a PAIA Information Manual. Initially, certain private companies were granted an exemption - first until 31 August 2005, which was then extended to 31 December 2011. At literally the last minute (31 December 2011), the Department of Justice published a notice on their website to confirm that the deadline was again extended, this time to 31 December 2015.
View the details of their notice here. Note however that if yours is a private company:-
you are not exempted and will need to ensure that your PAIA manual is compiled immediately.
If you need assistance with the above, feel free to contact our Anton Schelhase at antons@stbb.co.za.
