Many clients approach our offices for information on the rights of unwed biological fathers towards their children. Since the repeal of the Natural Fathers of Children born out of Wedlock Act, which dealt with the rights and responsibilities of unmarried fathers, many fathers feel that they have been left in a parenting purgatory. Contrary to what many people believe, the new Companies Act has not repealed the Close Corporations Act. The new Companies Act has, however, repealed certain provisions of the Close Corporations Act and amended certain others. Subject to these amendments, the Close Corporations Act continues to exist and will now be administered by the Commissioner of the CIPC.
